Recipes Deviled Mackerel

If you like your fish with a zing then this rich, spicy dish will bring you the flavors that you cherish so much, plus of course the mackerel’s famed large quantities of healthy fish oil too.

For this recipe you will need the following list of ingredients:

4 mackerel that have been gutted either by yourself or a friendly and helpful fishmonger

twenty five grams of salted butter

half a table spoon of cayenne pepper

one table spoon of paprika

one table spoon of English mustard

one table spoon of balsamic vinegar

one table spoon of brown sugar

First thing you will need to do is to preheat your oven to around two hundred degrees C or Gas Mark 6. If you have a fan assisted oven you will need to set the temperature at about one hundred and eighty degrees C. Next take your mackerel and with the use of a sharp knife cut three or four diagonal slashes reasonably deeply into the skin of the fish. Take an oven proof dish or indeed on a baking tray, each is just as good as each other. The only thing you need to think about is that the fish need to be laid out side by side on a single later, cut side up so a reasonably large baking tray is probably best.

The next stage is to mix the salted butter with the cayenne pepper, paprika, English mustard, balsamic vinegar and the brown sugar. You will get a brown paste at the end of this process that should then be brushed into the slashes made in the mackerel plus inside the fish too.

Finally the easiest bit of all, slam the baking tray into the oven and let the mackerel cook for around twenty minutes or so. Upon completion take out the fish and serve with lemon wedges, a fresh green salad and some nice new potatoes.
